Raquel & Conroy Engagement Photos

The weekend is here. Finally! Today I’m sharing a few images from Raquel & Conroy’s engagement session with you. I shot this cute couples wedding a few weeks ago and it was such an amazing day that was filled with lots of love and laughter. The plans we had for their engagement session didn’t end up working out as we had hoped and so we ended up doing a really short portrait session here in Kingston. I cannot wait to upload phots from their wedding!

And we're back!

Finally! And I’m thrilled to be! I’ve got lots of photos I’ve been DYING to upload, changes I’ve been wanting to make to the site, and websites/blogs that I really missed viewing. I think this weekend is the perfect weekend to get back into the thick of things. I’m going to start off with some photos I took of the cutest little rascal! His momma calls him Trey and he is just adorable with his big toothless smiles and totally calm and fascinating demeanour. This was my first infant portrait and I will admit I was a little nervous. I love how the images ended up coming out though and I know his mommy loved them as well.

Cynical

I took these pictures of my brother weeks ago! Like 4 or 5 weeks ago. Let’s just say I have been having some serious time management issues, plus last week was literally like a run-away freight train. I was literally up to my eye balls in stress. On top of it all my laptop is acting up aka lightroom is shot and I’ve had my first experience with actually loosing files o_O. I took it in stride however. All it means is I have a really good excuse to get a Mac :-) I’ve got a birthday coming up, any offers?? This mini photo shoot was all inspired by my bros hair cut. He had locks for a while (you can see pics of him with them here), and he just got up one day and decided to trim. He looked good with the locks, but bwoy that hair cut made him look really great! Anyhow, ladies this one’s for you! Send me a dm if you want digits!

Hope the weekend was fab everyone. Enjoy!

He is really into music, so I grabbed a few shots of him doing some work and his equipment while I was there. Btw the music in the slideshow is his!

Meisha's a mommy!

Hi y’all! Hope the day has been going swimmingly for you and the rest of the week will follow suit. This weeks blog post is a tad late in coming. My friend Meisha, I shot her wedding and family portrait for her last year, is now a mommy! Congrats girlie on the little tyke! He is such a cutie pie! Now, I said this post is late in coming because the pics here are from her maternity shoot. Trey’s at least 3 weeks old now and luckily for me he delayed his appearance so I could get some shots.

A client like Meisha is a true gift; a photographers dream I would say. Pictures are pretty important to her, she’s patient, really cool and good looking. Easy to photograph and always willing :-)

I sang throughout this whole shoot btw which everyone found amusing. Think I’ll save the song for when I get my shots of baby. Haha!

Can you say GORGEOUS!!! I mean seriously?

Do you see those fire engine red nails! So awesome :-) [I’m humming again]

Enjoy the week folks.

Jamaica Dance Umbrella

I’ve been pretty scarce on the blog front. Kind of feel like I’ve been neglecting my child, but alas I am back with some posts you will hopefully love. I’ve been swamped to say the least. I did a calendar/postcard shoot two weeks ago which was a new adventure in studio set ups for me. In the same week I was hired to cover the Jamaica Dance Umbrella shows from Thursday to Sunday. I had a ridiculous amount of images to go through editing and retouching so blogging though it was on my mind was pretty hard to fit into my schedule.

It’s ironic to me that I would have been hired to photograph a dance show. I used to be a professional dancer. I did ballet for 13 years, danced in L’Acadco (I was the youngest member they had ever had at the time) and I attended the Ailey School for one semester before I literally gave up. I’m a quitter I will admit, but I was simply over it. My back had started giving me problems and my ego which I hadn’t realised how big it was until I actually went to Ailey suffered from some seriously heavy bruising. When I attended Ailey the love I thought was there barely trickled in my veins. That mixed with extreme home-sickness, back issues, and a plethora of other things made me turn my back (literally) on dance. A few weeks ago my cousin, who is an exceptional dancer herself, asked me to take a few photographs for her application to a few dance programs in the U.S. She had been my willing guinea pig when I had wanted a dancer to photograph, plus she’s my cousin so of course I obliged her. While doing the shoot I ran into a dancer I knew long ago named Neila. A few days later she called me and asked me if I’d be interested in shooting her calendar/postcard project since the photographer that she had initially asked to do it was for whatever reason un-reachable. Of course I was like “sure, I’d love to!” Little did I know that taking those images would lead to me taking pictures for the entire weekend. I was pretty thrilled. The show overall was really good, but there were some pieces that really spoke to a shadowy corner of my soul and called me back to dance. It’s a funny thing, I started doing photography when I decided that dance wasn’t for me anymore, and yet it is photography that could actually bring me back to the studio. I don’t intended to go back to being a professional, but I am a little more comfortable (although a bit apprehensive) about taking a class once, maybe even twice a week. I am sharing a few images from the show below.

Sea Maiden

A few weekends ago I did a shoot inspired by the story of the Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen. Kadianne was our model for this story and she was a breeze to shoot. For one, she’s gorgeous, she’s got beautiful skin and an awesome personality. The pictures turned out really beautifully. Nicole, my resident make-up artist, did a beautiful job (she was pretty inspired by this concept). We did the shoot at Fort Clarence and I don’t think it could have gone any better than it did. I mean sand, sea, just the right amount of sun, lots of laughs and a tonne of fun = totally awesome day!

The weekend’s coming up and I’m pretty sure mine will go swimmingly. I’m starting it off with a really awesome shoot (*I’m so excited* ^_^) and if you know me you know I’m a very happy camper when I’ve got my camera in my hands.

Life’s a beach! Enjoy the pics and enjoy the weekend everyone :)

A few details 3

The wedding featured this week was occured the last weekend in November. The decor was absolutely beautiful. The bride’s dressing took place at Strawberry Hill and the ceremony occured at Creighton Estate. They were young and in love and the setting was perfect.  IMG_0646.jpg IMG_0688.jpg IMG_0629.jpg IMG_0644.jpg IMG_0655.jpg IMG_0657.jpg IMG_0764.jpg IMG_0730.jpg IMG_0780.jpg IMG_0781.jpg IMG_0945.jpg IMG_0931.jpg IMG_0932.jpg

Yesterday is gone, forget it!

IMG_7399.jpgYesterday was a dud. Actually, it was a lot more than that, it was terrible! Nothing I had on my to-do list actually got done including a long await portrait session. It was a disaster. The good thing about bad days is that another day follows it shorlty. So here I am today, not regretting yesterday, but certainly thrilled it’s gone and definately not wanting to have a repeat of it. Always keep looking ahead, cause tomorrow must come. Eyes to the skies and on the prize folks. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Peace out!

I really love doing creative projects. They give me an opportunity to work out a few of my ideas, new techniques, test new equipment on my own time. Doing this helps me a lot when I do client shoots. For this shoot I ended up with two sets of images that look completely different. I had this whole idea of using a single light source, a softbox with a flash mounted inside, to create a nice shadowy effect. Things however did not end up going the way I had envisioned. The flash remotes that I had assumed simply needed a new set of batteries refused to work. It was pretty upsetting especially since I bought this set up so that I could be better at shooting in situations where light was limited. I will admit I was really frustrated by this*. I ended up doing the shoot with my softbox and a regular house bulb. A lot of the pics were dark (I refused to use my flash. I’m stubborn, I know), but for some reason I am totally in love with them. For the other half of the shoot I gave in and slapped by good ole 430ex to my camera and shot away. I got some gorgeous shots from this as well.

This weeks model was Natasha. She’s my bfs bestfriends wife and she’s a hottie-potatie. She captured the essence of both scenes soo beautifully. Nic and I kept telling her that she really should consider modeling as an occupation. Bella!

Thanks to both Tash and Nic for being totally willing participants and for being so patient when things went a-rye. Enjoy! ^_^

*A few weeks after the shoot I asked my bf to check it out for me since I had no idea what would have caused my almost new remotes to die so suddenly on me. He shoved a piece of paper in the battery compartment and viola it was a live yet again. I apparently bought the wrong size batteries for it. *sigh* All that stress and for what exactly…smh

A few details 2

Here’s another installment of ‘A few details’. This week’s couple had a very special bookstore to thank for their meeting and eventual union. Their reception’s theme focused on this as well as all the places they had traveled to together throughout the years leading up to their wedding day. This wedding was a true family affair. Both families chipped in their own special ways to ensure the day came together perfectly. Hope you like :)
